About This Project
Our Mission
Road Deaths Ireland exists to remember those who have lost their lives on Irish roads and to raise awareness about road safety. Every statistic represents a person - someone's parent, child, sibling, or friend.
How It Works
Our automated system collects and processes news reports about road traffic fatalities in Ireland:
- News articles are collected from major Irish publications via RSS feeds
- AI extracts structured data: date, location, fatality count
- Locations are geocoded for map placement
- Statistics are calculated and the site is updated
Data Sources
We collect reports from trusted Irish news sources including:
- Irish Times
- RTÉ News
- Irish Independent
- Irish Examiner
- TheJournal.ie
- BreakingNews.ie
Limitations
This project relies on news reports and may not capture every incident. For official statistics, please refer to the Road Safety Authority (RSA) .
